Thing EPIC will do while in Africa

By Bruce Kane |  January 21, 2009

We met with African Missionaries, Ron & Shirley for dinner last week to discuss our goals for the EPIC Summer missions trip.  It was an exciting time and things are looking great for a very meaningful trip.

We will participate in ministry to orphans and upkeep to their facility.

We will also provide clean water to a neighborhood or community.  If we are able to acquire the necessary funds ($10,000) we will be able to dig a well for a community and install the necessary equipment to supply that community with fresh and clean water from that well, educating them on how to maintain their clean water supply.  If we are unable to acquire a full $10,000.00 we will be able to provide a neighborhood with a water purification system for about $1,000.00.  We will assist them in this installation and educate them on its maintenance as well.

We will facilitate an AIDS diagnosis and education clinic.  In a country absolutely ravaged by this disease we can help people find the disease and acquire necessary treatment before their entire family is victimized by it.  In the 1990s the country saw a decrease in the occurance of AIDS due to a nation-wide abstinance education program.  In recent years that program has been recended and AIDS is once again rising in a culture where male conquest of women isn't celebrated...  it's assumed.  The abstinance education ideal is now only uphled by Christians in the country, and proclaimed by ministers and missionaries.

This will be a financially expensive trip and will be personally costly to the members of the traveling team.  With the prayer and participation of the home team we can accomplish these objectives and more.

Pray that God will provide donations for the well-drilling as we approach businesses and individuals about the opprotunity to provide and participate.  Pray for the provision of finances to each member of the travelling team who need to pay their own way for the trip.  Pray for the victims of AIDS, expecially AIDS orphans in the country.  Pray for hearts that will see, hear, and receive God's love and grace in Uganda.  Pray for safety all around the trip.

Your prayer is the most important participation.  Soon, you will hear more about participating in raising funds for the event.
