Through The Bible Devotional
resource type: info
"I am so excited to share this incredible devotional journey with our entire worshipping community. I believe our year-long experience will grow us and unite us together, as we experience the entire span of God's story together." Bruce Kane
"The Bible is God's portrait of Jesus" John Stott, Author of Through the Bible Through the Year.
![]() Beginning in the Fall of 2009, the epic community of worshippers will join together, using the same daily devotional in our quest to know God better. This book, Through the Bible Through the Year, takes each participant through the entire story of God, one step at a time. While some may choose to read the entire text of the Bible as a supplement to this devotional guide, the guide in itself is a powerful tool to experience God's story in its fullness by exposing us all to the broad movements of the Bible experience.
The book follows the church calendar, used by Christ-followers since the middle ages, to guide Biblical learning. By adapting the events of Biblical history to our calendar, and celebrating the mighty acts of God as they unfold in the order of His revelation, Christ-followers can ingrain the story of God into their spirit, mind and soul. This is the epic goal for endeavor.
![]() You can see in the image above that the seasons recognized by the western church calendar are Advent (the expectation of Christ), Christmas, Epiphany (the appearance of Christ), Lent (the preparation for crucifixion), Holy Week (the week of the Passion or crucifixion), Easter, and Pentecost (the coming of the Holy Spirit and the institution of the church). The season of Pentecost is sometimes called "Ordinary Times" and used to teach both the Epistles and the Old Testament. We will use this format for our devotional schedule, beginning in the Old Testament during the Fall, and arriving at Christmas on schedule with our standard calendar.
