The DaVinci Code Discussion

Beginning May 14th @ epic

By Bruce Kane |  April 28, 2006

As epic celebrates Mother's Day, we will begin our discussion of the DaVinci Code.  In this controversial novel, Dan Brown makes some incredulous claims about Christianity and world history.  He asserts that beginning in the 4th century; Christians have subverted the truth about Christ and substituted a lie.  The assertion is that the world has believed a lie since that time because of the power of the Vatican to prevent truth from surfacing.

As the story unfolds, Brown explains several historical events and quotes multiple historical documents, twisting their content to fit his story.  The story then propones that Christianity as we know it is completely false and built upon misinformation.

Many people will be compelled to question their assumptions about Christianity and some will decide to accept the musings of a novelist over the truth without ever exploring the data for themselves.  At epic we will go through the data together to find that Christianity is supported by the most reliable sourcebook in all of antiquity - The Bible.  We invite you to join the conversation.  Everyone will be involved.

I am reading the book now.  Check out my blog (linked to the homepage) to get some of my reflections.
