Haiti News from Convoy of Hope

By Bruce Kane |  February 2, 2010

Epic just received an update from our partners at Convoy of Hope regarding the situation in Haiti.   The following is an excert.

The capital city of Port au Prince is in ruins following the 7.0 earthquake a week ago last Tuesday, which killed more than 70,000 people.  Over 3 million people were affected by the disaster and are becoming desperate for basic necessities...

Because the Convoy of Hope warehouse in Haiti was fully stocked at the time of the quake, our missionaries were among the first to provide relief.  We were also able to bring additional supplies from our warehouse in adjoining Dominican Republic.  At the time of this writing, almost 500,000 meals have been served in the capital.  In addition to these meals, an additional 1 million pounds of food has been sent to Port au Prince and will have been received by the time you receive this letter...

Our medical relief team is is scheduled to leave soon.  And because of serious concerns for safety, Convoy of Hope will not be deploying volunteer teams from the U.S. until we can guarantee their safety.  (This will be during the rebuilding process most likely.)...

There are 273 partner churches, 6 Latin America Child Care schools and over 66,000 partner-church members in Haiti.  We are missing several pastors and many church members who were killed in the quake...

Because communication lines are down, gas is in short supply and road travel is very difficult because of the debris of collapsed buildings, the full extent of this tragedy will not be known for some time AND the desperate needs will continue...

Please remain in constant prayer for our efforts to minister to the needs of the people of Haiti and express the gospel in our actions.  Pray also about what God would have you to do in response to this terrific need.
