Epic Launch Team Meeting #1

Epic Church is Born

By Bruce Kane |  July 30, 2005

On Friday, July 29, 2005 the Epic Launch Team met for the very first time. There was a great deal of excitement in the Kane dining room as Bruce and Rhonda Kane, Brad and Lori Kane, and Darin and Brandi Parson discussed the future of Hanford’s newest and most uncommon church.

As children wandered in and out of the conversation, the team decided to meet each Sunday evening for a Bible study and for personal leadership preparation. The entire team agrees that children need more than just childcare right from the beginning. The team will begin its study with relationship oriented material and then transition into deeper study.

With a visible anticipation, the team talked about its current opportunity to meet the needs of Hanford’s needy students by providing backpacks to local 7th and 8th graders. Everyone was energetic about finding resources, partners and support for the project. We need 168 backpacks for the most needy students.

The team dreamed together about creative ways to be real with God in living worship and service to Him. We are excited to invite more Hanfordians into this meaningful spiritual journey to God’s reality. We also began to discuss how we would construct our church to be less religious and more spiritual, how worship and preaching would be intermeshed into weekly spiritual experiences, how authentic relationship would characterize spiritual growth, and how serving is and will always be a part of EPIC’s dna.
